Day 43

The influence the olympics has on my kids.....

I was shoveling and I heard, "Look mommy! I'm pretending I'm Shaun White! I am snowboarding!" I turned around and saw him doing this (on his sled. in the yard.). I was on the porch, so I was able to grab my camera off my desk quickly.
I suspect we need to take him REAL snowboarding. Maybe his uncle can teach him next winter.

Day 42

The theme this weekend was SPARKLY. It was dreary as all heck outside, so this was the only sparkle I could find.

Day 41

~Saturday~
reserved. pic on another camera.

Day 40

Errr...I thought I took a photo? But I guess not. I mean, I took photos, but not an intentional POTD one.
So I'll use this one....a scarf I made for Norah. I call it "the fugly scarf". She wanted green and she loooves that fiber. I personally think it feels creepy as all getup.

Day 39

After dropping off the kids this morning, I set out to take a photo of this suspension bridge that was built in the 30's. In the spring and summer, I always run or bike by this, as its just off the parkway. I think its breathtaking when its green. I've not seen it in the winter, because frankly, I hate running outside in the winter. But today I took a gander and its a different kind of pretty.

And bonus photos...
A view of the river from the bridge

overexposed

A view of the sky from the bridge....its so sunny and blue today. Very rare.

Playing with exposure.

Day 38

I took the twinadoes out to dinner tonight to my favorite local coffee joint that serves yummy, healthy food. They totally pigged out. This is them after they cleared their plates (honeydew melon and a huge bowl of baked oatmeal chock full of fruits) and split a cinnamon roll! Oink!!

I only had my iphone, so I apologize for the photo quality. I tried sprucing it up w/ the photoshop app.

Day 37

This is an homage to what I did on Valentines day this year.

Day 36

I saw this done with an oreo somewhere and thought it was cool. Doesn't quite have the effect w/o that contrast, but it'll have to do.

Day 32

Er. Out of order. But I found them all. No missing days. This was Wednesday. Artwork by Norah. While its not a great photo, I thought it was a cool looking owl.

Day 35

Comfy. That was the topic for the weekend. The first thing that came to mind was my blanket. I knit this blanket and its so thick and soft and comfy. And can always be found on my lap :)

Today I was having issues w/ my kit lens. I will have to take a look at it this week when I have time, but long story short, it wasn't wanting to focus properly. As you can clearly see. Gah.

Day 34

Its amazing what a little fluid can do to add life to your body.
This first one is my official photo of the day. Nothing special...taken with the coolpix I threw in my purse to document yet another trip to Children's Hospital by one of my children (but for once, said child was not hurt or did not ingest something they should not have).

This other one is for comparison. Taken w/ my iphone. This was right after they got the IV hooked up, before it took effect.

Day 33

sticky sweet

Day 31

I can't let days go by between posts. Because I really hope this is day 31 (i do know i didn't miss any days). Its been a long week.
This is "what i see when i sit on my couch...."

Day 30

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow
(as if I really have a choice in the matter?)

Look!!! I got it! I got falling snow! Of course, it was coming down in sheets, but hey...

Day 29

Rock Star

I know its a washed out photo with a flash, but she's been hilarious lately, dressing up in costumes, pretending to be people. She's very much into 'fancy'.

Day 28

Cold

If its any indication how cold and drafty my house is, one of our very fat cats always parks himself in front of the heat vent for hours.

Day 27

We are the champions!

Last year (with Darth Taiter) he took 3rd in the pack, but this year, Aidan won 1st place for his den in the pinewood derby race.

The trophy and winning car (the car is a spin-off of the Milwaukee Brewers, obviously)

Day 26

Elmo
What a good little subject. He sat so still.
In all seriousness, a friend of mine who is a photographer was so kind and invited me over to play around when she set up for a shoot. I know NOTHING when it comes to lighting and flashes and all those fancy gadgets. I have a ton to learn. Wow. I got to use a neat trigger for 2 tripod mounted flashes, one that had an umbrella and another that had a diffuser type of box (like my technical terms?) and move them this way and that to experiment with bounce and whatnot as I adjusted my settings. Very cool.

So here's one of 50 photos of Elmo. Next time I need a subject that squirms. Something more real and fleshy.

Day 25

Its my boy...back when he was a mere 3!!!! How cool is this????? From the book Photographing Children: Photo Workshop , this was one of the many photos that was taken when we had Melanie Sikma do our family photos back in spring of 2005.
I knew there was a photo in here, but I didn't know what one and until I saw the book at my friend's house and picked it up and paged through it!!!!
Of course, I have to buy it now :)

Day 24

Just a photo of something I worked on yesterday and today: garland for the (yet not finished) mantle. I need to find a way to secure it...the snowmen just won't cut it :)
(i apologize for the photo quality)

A big thank you to Sarah at Frills, Fluff, and Trucks for the tutorial on the heart garland!

Day 23

I was playing around outside with my camera on the tripod and my remote (no flash), trying hard to capture the falling snow in the dark (8pm). I failed at getting the snow. I've read that snow is super hard to get right. Since we have a lot of it here, I think I am going to work on that this winter :)
In the meantime, here's one of many outtakes. 1/8s, f/4.0, 200ISO.

Day 22

Bronchitis. Good times. This stuff can be called the (crappiest tasting) nectar of the gods at a time like this.

And now I vow to take better photos from here on out :) Promise.

Day 21

AAAACCK. I suck. Again. However, I did snap a craptastic photo of a scrapbook layout (sans journaling) that I did on Sunday.

Its Norah and her signature stinkeye she used to give us for every photo when she was younger. So cute and cheesy.

Day 20

We had dinner club and it was Indian themed. I made Chana Masala (yumm). So as we were able to leave, I realized I hadn't taken my photo yet, so I snapped one of the food, knowing it would be late when we got home and I'd likely forget.

Day 19

Disclaimer: I am done using my 50 for my POTD. It looks great in the LCD screen and then I upload them and they are CRAP! Ugh. So yeah - blur. Blur. Blur. Blur.

We were able to convince Aidan to cut his hair shorter. He looks much better that way :) Ahhh.

Day 18

I suck. I forgot to take a photo. I woke up in the middle of the night and it was the first thought in my head. But I wasn't about to get up and do it.
